For this project, you will be learning about color theory and how color choices affect the way we physically see and interpret an artwork. You will then be coming up with an original painting that shows off your skills in color theory and mixing colors. The subject matter that you choose is up to you, but you need to choose your color scheme in a way that enhances your meaning.

Value: The lightness or darkness of a color
Hue: Pure color Tint: Adding white to lighten a hue Shade: Adding black to darken a hue Mix all of the primary, secondary, and tertiary colors and place them in the hue ring on your color wheel sheet. For each color, add white to make a tint and a very light tint. Paint them in the inner rings of your color wheel Use a mixture of ultramarine blue and burnt umber to create black. Mix black with your hues to create a shade and darker shade. |

Decide what your piece is going to be about!
How to come up with a great topic for your art project Use sketches or writing to generate ideas for your topic. You should also be researching other artists or work to show where you got your inspiration. Remember that good brainstorming involves coming up with as many ideas as possible even if they are bad! When you are ready to conference: Explain: How are connecting your piece to other artwork and experiences? What message is your piece going to communicate? How are you showing off your originality? Complete a final sketch of your composition in full color |
Create
Start your project. As you work and get feedback, make improvements and adjustments to your piece. Once you have problem solved any remaining issues, you are ready to present!
Remember to document your progress as you go so you can complete your weekly process journal.
