Project 1: Contour Drawing
In this project, you will be using the knowledge you have gained about perceiving edges to create your own original contour drawing. You will get to choose your subject, materials, and size. Remember you are going to be graded on your artistic behaviors so you will want to make sure that your piece has the appropriate level of creativity, and challenge.

LEARNING TARGETS:
- I can use the artistic process to come up with an idea to create a drawing
- I can use my knowledge and techniques for perceiving edges to accurately draw an object from observation
- I can choose materials that fit my meaning or idea.
Plan
Decide what you are going to make! Use sketches or writing to generate ideas for your topic. You should also be researching other artist's or work to show where you got your inspiration. Your visual journal should explain how you are connecting your piece to other artwork and experiences. Your piece should also communicate a message and you will need to decide what that message is. Remember that good brainstorming involves coming up with as many ideas as possible even if they are bad!

Step 2: Organize and Develop
Now that you have narrowed down to one idea, how are you going to visualize it? You may need to begin by taking or compiling reference photos or bringing in an object. Begin by using thumbnail sketches (10+) to plan your composition, considering the elements and principles of design. Remember you are not changing ideas at this point, just playing with how to use the space on the paper. You will also want to think about your line styles, materials, size, and whether or not you are gong to use color. Remember that you should be able to explain how your choices relate back to your message! Also be conscious of where your risk taking is going to come in to your piece. When you have made a decision complete a final sketch of your composition. You will explain this and all of your thinking in your blog post
