For this project, you will create a piece of interactive artwork that communicates a message, value or belief and engages with the audience who sees or finds it.
- How do life experiences influence the way you relate to art? (VA:Re7.1.1a)
- How do people come to value/believe in something?
- How can an artist portray one's value or belief through an art-work(s)?
For this project, you will be creating a typography design. The words that you use are your choice. They could be lyrics, quotes, or any text or writing that you choose. Remember that any sources you take writing from should be properly credited. Your design should choose a type style and colors that express the feeling or message behind the words that you choose. Remember to use what you have learned about the elements and principles of design. You may use images in your piece but the type should be the emphasis.

What are your core values and beliefs? Complete the values inventory worksheet to decide what the message of your work will be.
What are your core values and beliefs? Complete the values inventory worksheet to decide what the message of your work will be.
For your brainstorming, collect words that you would like to use. Decide what mood or style your words should express (you should be able to narrow this down to two or three words) and search for inspiration images that successfully pull off that style. Begin to collect typefaces, colors, and images that match your style. Add them to your inspiration page on Weebly.

Layout basics
Grids are used to help designers organize their space and make it make sense. Gutters are the space between grids to space out blocks of text.
Using a grid is not just about making things be square and line up: it’s about proportion as well. That’s where the “theory” comes into grid theory. Rule of Thirds: Divides vertical and horizontal space into thirds and puts focal points at intersections. Golden Mean: Creating a grid design using the golden ratio |

What style or feeling do you want your posters to show? Look for inspiration and investigate how other designers have used layouts.
What style or feeling do you want your posters to show? Look for inspiration and investigate how other designers have used layouts.
Experiment with creating your idea in many types of layouts. Decide if you will need any handmade elements photographs and decide on a color scheme and typeface.
Plan example layouts and experiment with color, typeface and style. You should have at least 5 practice layouts before you draw a final sketch.
Critique your sketches with a partner, and make improvements based on the feedback you receive. Create your final sketch |
